Calamity Camping: After the Flood

2012 February 27

Yikes! An evaporative-cooler pipe in our attic burst while we were out, and flooded both levels of our house with thousands of gallons of water. Porter and I loved each other through it, like we did on the Pacific Crest Trail. This is the first of three posts to share what we learned from ServiceMasterClean of Boulder (water remediation), Parrish Construction (home reconstruction), and Homewood Suites (sometimes it’s best to decamp to more comfy ground).

Check out what happened next on the post “Calamity Camping at Home.”

Oh my goodness, Gail, that is a calamity! Your wonderful home turned asunder. I can imagine how loud those fans must have been given the amount of airflow needed to blow-dry your house!

And you’re still cheerful! C’mon, you must have been just a wee bit grumpy. No?

Carol, definitely I had my moments as QBU, but gratitude for the workers trumped grumpiness! The stress was intense, though.

Wow! I know that was a true calamity! I’m so sorry that happened to you.

These (mostly) moving pictures are worth thousands of words!

Thank you, Claire! I love your own posts and photos on your three amazing blogs!

What an attitude! Great job between you and Porter. ‘Ya gotta wonder though, why can’t such a thing happen to someone with a terribly outdated interior and GOOD insurance?????
    Life goes on.

So glad to see that your home is restored and reconstructed. And maybe you & Porter have recovered by now!

Thank heavens that is behind you–makes you appreciate your beautiful home even more! And what terrible timing for such a mess. You and Porter really know how to roll with the punches–

You are very gracious to thank all of the people who worked in your behalf. Many under similar circumstances would not have had the open hearts and gratitude that you and Porter have. What a way to have your house refurbished, even when your beautiful home didn’t need any changes.

Only you can pull through disaster with a big smile on your face! Glad that you and Porter are back in your home.

Bad timing – not only near Christmas — but winter is such an unpleasant time to go camping!

Wow! “Calamity” is sure the word for it. But you got through it with your usual panache and even had the grace to pay tribute to all the service people who helped you. That’s what I call “style.”

Gail, I admit it. I knew you’d have photos or a video and it has taken me this long to muster the nerve to look. Yikes! Now I can see why I was sending all those prayers and good energy.
